Sven Atterton‘s much anticipated follow up to ‘The Cove’, thematically named ‘The Cape’, drops on his newly formed Cruise Club Records. Anyone that’s experienced the wonder of Sven live, is well aware of the prowess and apparent effortlessness he possesses on stage. As at home laying it down on a synth, as he is tearing it up on the bass, ‘The Cape’ showcases modern synth boogie as good as anyone at present.
‘Taboo’, one of many highlights, demonstrates both Sven’s skills as a multi-instrumentalist and as an accomplished producer. Flexing those 80’s LinnDrum hits, getting spiritual on the keys, whilst layering that full frontal bass and dreamy pads – it’s a nod to the past, whilst re-imagining it for the modern age. And considering the cost Sven’s debut album now goes for on Discogs, ‘The Cape’ is one to snap up on sight.
The Cape LP is out now – buy from Bandcamp.
Thank you to Walla P and Voyage Funktastique for the continued support! They have genuinely encouraged me to continue to make music by showcasing it on their monthly radio show. Walla has excellent taste in Funk, check out the play list 😉 Thank you guys!
I contributed to this track a while ago with a good friend of mine from the Netherlands @Leefunkster This track has been played in many Pop locking battles courtesy of Lucas Benjamin, Im playing guitar, talk box, Bass and some synths.
Well I didn’t think last years Gottwood could be topped, but somehow this year was even better! Massive thanks to Ruf Dug and Randy Brunson for having me at the Lab again. Big shout to the stage manager Billy Thackray for taking care of me. Gottwood still has to be one of the best crowds I’ve played for, Hope I can return next year.
A write up of my show at Gottwood 2018 via Stamp the Wax website:
Sven Atterton (Live) and Red Laster Records
Ruffy’s Lab is, hands down, my favourite festival stage in the UK. “Stage” might be a bit flattering. It’s more a garden extension that skipped planning permission and propped itself up by two walls of old TVs and a sound system. An evening there is one spent down the rabbit hole of Ruf Dug’s unmatched mind. Decorated and programmed by him all weekend, it’s a Manchester flag-waving exercise with arms that never tire. With my ears still ringing from the Stamp The Wax takeover on Thursday, there’s was no need to go anywhere else on the Friday, in the company of Il Bosco’s Red Laser Records. Having missed the live set from Essex producer Sven Atterton here last year, I made sure to get front row seats this time. On paper, a DJ set of his own material with live bass-slapping shouldn’t cause such a stir, but his 60 minute rendition was high-impact enough to leave Artwork drop-jawed, unable to move at the front.

Wow i can’t say enough thanks to Simon Schar for setting up this great night in beautiful Bern Switzerland! The night has to be up there at the top so far. What an amazing scene they have there, and everyone seems to be an professional DJ. Marc Matsuki & Jay Sanders Matto played the most ridiculous set that really got people in the mood, i really feel like I’ve made some solid friendships.
It was such a great honor to play Wicked Jazz Sounds! Huge thanks to Lucas Benjamin for getting me the gig. He played a great DJ set along side Leroy Rey. Mirjam Van der Loo provided some beautiful vocals. The legendary Jeff Hollie who features on Frank Zappers album ‘Joes Garage’ stole the crowd with his amazing Sax skills, we partied until 5:30am and the vibe will last forever!
Huge thanks to Chris Neal aka ‘Mr Neal’ for his hospitality in Frankfurt, it was great to meet up with Walla P and Dr Mad from Voyage Funktastique (Montreal Canada) who have been supporting my music since i started. It was great to meet DJ Debo who’s all the way from California, he played some choice cuts that had people loosing their minds on the dance floor. Veruschka and Sherm da Worm also played an excellent set and a great time was had by all.
Two more exciting shows to announce involving a Euro road trip through four different countries, kicking off fist at the International FunkFreaks event in Frankfurt Germany June 13th, then onto Amsterdams Sugar Factory for the Wicked Jazz Sounds! check the flyers for the details

Welcome to my official website dedicated to modern grooves.
“Sven is an English modern-funk, bass player from Essex, in the UK.
His music embraces elements of the 1980s, in particular Boogie-funk from 1983.
Sequenced analogue bass, blended with live slap-bass guitar are the bones of Sven’s music. Driven mainly by vintage drum machine and synthesizer, Sven pays dues to a prolific past time whilst making a contribution to a modern-funk era”.
